Welcome to the New Season

Rams Hill Golf Club is Making 2020 A Year to Remember

Coming off a strong finish to last season, Rams Hill Golf Club kicked off the 2020-2021 season in style with our second-annual First Tracks event — this year a three-day weekend, October 23-25, that included golf, food, fun, prizes and posters. But that was just the beginning to a season that is already breaking new ground as Rams Hill works to stand alongside some of the best golf destination clubs in the country.

Here are just a few 2020 highlights so far:

Rams Hill Golf Club was named Best Public Golf Course by Southern California Golf Association voters in their 2020 Bracket Madness Survey. Along with that title, other accolades continue to pour in — including such honors as No. 6 Golf Course in California and 58th among the Top 200 Best Resort Courses in the United States by Golfweek. And all of this was after closing out 2019 at No. 7 on GolfAdvisor’s Best 100 U.S. Public Courses list.

Speaking of the SCGA, golf journalist Matt McKay penned “Glorious Isolation” about Rams Hill in Fore Magazine’s Fall Issue. “The primary, overpowering element that foists Rams Hill Golf Club into the upper echelon of California golf courses is the glorious isolation,” McKay writes. “It dominates the atmosphere, overwhelms player perception and ratchets up to 10 the feeling one gets taking on an architectural specialty in such an awe-inspiring setting.”

The Tom Fazio course design, which Tim Jackson of Jackson-Kahn Golf Design helped resurrect more than six years ago, will also be part of a championship pedigree this year when the USGA brings one of its U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifiers to Rams Hill on December 3, 2020. And that event will be followed by Rams Hill’s own first-annual tournament — The Ramateur — over the weekend of December 5-6, 2020. Even before the first swing is made, The Ramateur has proved quite popular, selling out months in advance. Keep your eye out for another first-ever event planned for later in the 2020-2021 season as well.

And if you want to see the Rams Hill landscape — and surrounding Anza-Borrego Desert State Park — in a different light, make sure to follow self-professed “golf nomad” and talented golf photographer Matt Cardis @golfinyourstate on Instagram. Matt is calling Borrego Springs home throughout November and into the December days leading up to The Ramateur, and you never know what he might find while wandering the golf course and beyond. You can read more about Matt Cardis in our 2019 profile.
