Harry Turner’s June Message

2019-07-25T14:34:07+00:00June 1st, 2019|

By Harry Turner, COO & GM The 2018/2019 season has been a great success. Once again, it’s hard to imagine that the season is over as it comes and goes so quickly. I want to thank all of our Rams Hill Members for their wonderful support. I too want to say thanks to the many guests who have continued to make trips to Rams Hill a part of their busy schedules. The summer is a time when we do special projects on the golf course and around the Clubhouse as we continually strive to improve all aspects of Rams Hill for Members and guest. This year, we will focus our attention on maintaining our greens in an effort to open back in the second week of October. Opening in October will be dependent on the condition of the golf course at that time. We will likely not [...]

The Effects of Traffic: Managing the Golf Course

2019-05-06T17:33:10+00:00May 5th, 2019|

By Jose Verduzco, Golf Course Superintendent Traffic on a golf course damages the turf. Read some facts below on the effects of traffic on the grass as well as some tips we personally use to prevent turf injury. Effects Wear: Plants are affected above the ground due to pressure, twisting, and turning as well as repeated and concentrated traffic. Root Growth: Root deterioration will not be noticeable until the summer months. Compacted soil means the soil is tighter and has less air space for roots to grow in. Soils that are compacted act like insulation meaning that when weather is favorable for roots to grow there is a delay on the actual soil temperature. Disease: Shallow/no roots equals a stressed plant. A stressed plant is more susceptible to disease. Thin Stand: Another effect of traffic on the turf is the thinning of grass stands, which creates [...]

Ways to Beat the Summer Heat with Nutrition

2019-06-20T14:36:01+00:00May 4th, 2019|

Jeremy Manley, Executive Chef 1. We all know this one but a friendly reminder is add a lemon or lime to your glass of ice water to refresh your taste buds. 2. When you eat coconut, you are not only getting the benefits from the coconut water but also from the actual coconut fruit as well. They are naturally filled with electrolytes which help keep you hydrated and cool. 3. Put down the ice cream and pick up a bowl of yogurt this summer. No, don’t do this just because yogurt is healthier, but because of yogurt’s high water content. It will cool you down even more than ice cream can. 4. This suggestion may take you by surprise…soup! Usually, after being outside in the scorching heat all day, the last thing you want for dinner is soup. However, it actually cools your body down from the inside [...]

Harry Turner’s May Message

2019-05-06T14:15:34+00:00May 1st, 2019|

By Harry Turner, COO & GM It’s hard to believe, but our season is coming to a close soon. It seems like it was only yesterday that we were preparing for the opening of the season and now it’s almost over. As many of you know, Sunday, June 9th will be the final day the golf course is open this season. We hope that the 2019/2020 season will begin earlier this fall. Our goal is to have a soft opening in mid-October this year. The opening date will be dependent on the condition of the course coming out of overseeding but we are optimistic. Jose and his team are already preparing the summer schedule with the early opening date in mind. Let’s hope Mother Nature is kind to us this summer. Prior to closing we still have several important dates for you and your guest to circle. Mother’s [...]
