2019-04-17T16:10:37+00:00February 17th, 2019|

By Jeremy Manley, Executive Chef Do you ever realize soup is a prevalent meal during winter? Specifically, chicken noodle soup seems to be even more prevalent. Do you ever wonder why exactly? Dry cured bones have been used for decades in chicken noodle soups and other home remedies to fight the flu. Why do you ask? Simmering animal bones in water release collagen and other proteins into the broth that have health benefits such as fighting inflammation, ease joint pain, promote gut health and cardioprotective effects. Chicken broth contains vitamins, minerals, and some fat. The warm liquid can help your upper respiratory tract by providing hydration and nasal clearance. Carrots, onion, and celery contain vitamins A, C, and antioxidants that help build a strong immune system. Chicken is packed with proteins that help support the immune system as well. Noodles are carbohydrates that contribute to keeping you [...]

The following are some tips from Rams Hill's maintenance department on how we can all help ease traffic patterns on the course: Follow traffic signs and stakes. The crew evaluates and strategically places traffic signs and other traffic direction tools on the golf course. Avoid entering/leaving the hole over a worn area. Always look for the healthiest part to drive on and off. Always scatter when playing in a group with multiple golf carts. Avoid driving/walking over heavy traffic areas on fairways, approaches, and greens. Maintaining these areas stress-free can prevent wear and tear on the turf. 2019-04-17T15:41:10+00:00January 27th, 2019|

By Jose Verduzco, Golf Course Superintendent Bunkers' main purpose serves to test the player's ability to play golf. Furthermore, it can be incredibly difficult to get a ball out of a bunker. However, it can be just as tricky to successfully navigate them and to know how to treat them after using them. Read our tips written by our golf experts on how to successfully navigate bunkers: Identify the lowest or closest entry spot to your golf ball. This will help with keeping the integrity of the bunker. Identifying a close and low spot will prevent you from leaving deeper footprints and thus disturbing areas in the bunker. How to Pair Wines with Your Steak

2019-04-17T14:36:27+00:00January 17th, 2019|

By Jeremy Manley, Executive Chef When it comes to culinary pairings, few things hold a candle to the classic combination of a glass of good wine with steak. A fine red wine that pairs with steak compliments the palate and tickles the taste buds for savory, sweet and sour in a distinct combination that few other foods can accomplish. But what exactly makes the magic happen with steak and wine pairings and which ones are best to drink with steak? There’s a real reason that steak and wine work so well together. Something very particular happens when you consume red wine with steak. Molecules in red wine called tannins combine with and soften meat proteins, which sharpens your senses and helps you taste more of that beefy flavor you love. The fat, in turn, softens the astringent qualities of the wine, helping to mellow the beverage and [...]

Improve Your Chipping in 6 Easy Steps

2019-04-17T15:08:00+00:00January 11th, 2019|

By Bob Gelesko, Head Golf Professional "Chipping" is a popular term we use in golf that refers to a shot taken in proximity to the green. Once successfully hit, the ball is briefly shot into the air, lands on the green and rolls (hopefully) into the hole. The shots are useful when something lies in between you and the hole such as fringe that prevents you from putting. If you want to improve chipping, read our suggestions below so you can navigate the green successfully. Try chipping with different clubs from all around the green instead of the same spot to improve your chipping. Also, try the following when chipping around the green: Use a putting grip (palms opposed) Make sure when you start forward that your hands lead the stroke (the club head should not be ahead of your hands at impact) Move [...]
