Rams Hill Golf Club partners with Shane Bacon, Max Homa to sponsor popular “Get a Grip” podcast

If you’re a fan of the “Get a Grip” podcast with PGA Tour standout Max Homa and Golf Channel’s Shane Bacon, you’ll be hearing a lot more about Rams Hill Golf Club in 2021. And if you haven’t listened to the lively podcast which wraps up the previous week’s golf while highlighting some of the game’s favorite places to play, we suggest you give it a listen. Rams Hill Golf Club has signed on to be a podcast sponsor in January-February and again later this year, culminating in a very cool summer contest with a grand prize Rams Hill round of golf with Shane Bacon this fall.

Rams Hill’s partnership began with “Get a Grip” Episode 52 (January 25), which is a production of iHeart Radio and can be listened to now on Apple devices.

It all started when Bacon and friends made their first visit to Borrego Springs back in early 2020 and fell in love with Rams Hill, especially our golf-course-view House on the Hill, which Shane called “one of the best golf houses I’ve ever stayed at.” He returned for a second dose of Rams Hill in December, competing in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier with partner Ashdon Woods.

“A year ago, I had no idea where Borrego Springs, California, was and had just heard some things about this golf course called Rams Hill,” Bacon says. “I dragged some buddies out with me to get a little golf in and was floored by what was unveiled when I arrived. It’s a championship golf course that lands on the list of golf courses I could play each day for the rest of my life and not get bored by it. Amazing par-3s, challenging par-4s and unique par-5s give Rams Hill the pedigree to be included in the lengthy work that is finding the next buddies-trip destination. On top of the course, House on the Hill is as close to what I would envision in my head when trying to lay out the perfect home to house a weekend getaway for golfers. Come curious, leave thrilled. That’s what Rams Hill is about, and I can’t tell you how pumped I am to partner with a favorite spot of mine.”

Remember that crazy-long drive?

The next step is getting Homa on a trip to Rams Hill, which is in the works for Fall 2021. Until then, he’ll have to listen to frequent stories (and keep getting tagged in social-media posts) about Bacon’s prolific driving distance in the desert — Shane hit one 494 yards (!) on the par-5 11th during his first visit and topped the 400-yard mark once again on the par-5 6th during the USGA Four-Ball Qualifier.

For the Rams Hill team, jumping onto the “Get a Grip” rocket ship was an easy decision, says General Manager Harry Turner.

“We love having Shane visit Rams Hill and we’re all cheering for Max on Tour, so putting together a partnership with “Get a Grip” was a perfect fit. And now with Shane on Golf Channel and Max in contention so often, both their golf profiles just keeping rising and rising,” Turner says.

“And even though Rams Hill has worked hard to accommodate golfers and travelers safely throughout the pandemic, we’re looking forward to having both Shane and Max out here in the fall for the complete Rams Hill Experience.”
